Google is losing control of Android

AOSP helped Android quickly occupy the market, but it also brought some problems - Google is slowly losing control of Android, and it is difficult for Android to bring Google enough profits. According to the report of the data analysis organization Strategy Analytics, the share of Android phones has occupied 85% of the smartphone market, but the profit is not as good as that of Apple iOS. This is mainly because more and more Android devices are not controlled by Google. According to ABI's research, 20% of smartphone devices from May to June are branch Android devices based on the AOSP project system. This device cannot bring Google. profit.

Android is to bring profits to Google, mainly due to the use of Google's Android services. Google has established an Open Handset Alliance (OHA), an open handset alliance. The Android system used by OHA members includes Google services, which allows Google to make money. However, Android is divided into two major parts: AOSP and Google Service GMS. Google cannot control open source AOSP. Nowadays, more and more devices originate from the AOSP branch, which keeps Google's control over Android constantly decreasing.

The use of AOSP equipment can completely remove Google services, and join the vendor's own ecosystem, for example, Amazon's Kindle device is based on the AOSP development system, but the built-in application stores and other ecological construction projects belong to Amazon, and Google has nothing to do. In China, India and other emerging markets, the growth rate of AOSP equipment is particularly obvious. What's worse is that Google cannot do anything about it. For example, Google cannot get account-related services into the Chinese market.

Google introduced the Android One platform at this year's Google I/O 2014 conference. The platform is designed to establish a new standard, allowing Android machines with a price of $100 to use the Google native system. In addition, there are also reports that Google intends to use the Silver Plan to allow more devices to use native systems to solve the problem of Android's ecological division. At the same time, Google is also reducing the code in the AOSP, for example, in Android 4.4, the desktop launcher is closed source GMS, rather than open source AOSP.
