[TechWeb Report] October 13 news, according to foreign media reports, LG announced that it is building the largest electric vehicle battery plant in Poland near Wroclaw (Wroclaw).
According to reports, the factory is located near the German border, and Germany is a very important automobile manufacturing country. It is expected that its LG Chemical Division will open its doors in 2019 and will supply lithium batteries to 100,000 electric vehicles each year from the following year.
In contrast, Panasonic’s latest battery facility in China can provide enough production capacity to produce about 200,000 vehicles a year. The Tesla Gigafactory Super Factory hopes to eventually produce about 500,000 vehicles a year. According to Elon Musk, the current super factory with the closest production capacity is more than any other factory in the world.
As more and more automakers shift their models to electric cars and hybrid cars, battery production may become a major bottleneck in car electrification. Building more factories will certainly help future production, but the supply of basic materials may become a bigger obstacle in the future. (yoyo)
