In the past, we often copy some wonderful articles online, but the format of online articles is very turbulent. For example, the punctuation of the article is mixed with full-width/half-width punctuation, unreasonable paragraph design, various fonts, etc. This gives us great inconvenience for subsequent reading. How to quickly remove these non-standard elements to form a standardized article? In fact, as long as we can use our commonly used Word to achieve, the following example of Word 2016.

One-half/full-width one-step replacement

We all know that the input method is divided into full-width and half-width input. Many articles on the Internet will care about the difference between full-width and half-width. This article is often mixed with half-width/full-width characters. Full-width characters take up more characters and look beautiful. If there is a phenomenon in the copied article, we can use Word's own components to quickly complete the replacement.

First paste all the copied documents into Word, select all copied documents, and click "Start → Aa (change case) → half-width", so that the original full-width character can be changed to half-width (Figure 1).

In the Word Change Case Menu, you can see that it also contains commonly used English writing specifications such as "sentence case", "the first letter of each word", and it can also be used to quickly standardize the format of an article. For example, in the above example, there are no rules for capitalizing the first letter of many words. Select the content of the text (without the content of the http link) and click on “The capitalization of each word” (Figure 2).

A key to delete garbled

In order to prevent us from copying articles arbitrarily, some websites often have a lot of irregular garbled characters after they are pasted into Notepad. Most of these garbled characters are attached to the end of the paragraph (Figure 3).

However, these garbled characters are not apparent in Word because the colors of these garbled fonts are set to white (the same as the word background color). For the removal of these garbled texts, you can use "Find and Replace". Press Ctrl+H in Word to open the "Find and Replace" window, expand the advanced features of the replacement, and then click "Font..." under "Format". In the "Font" window that opens, expand the "All Text" In the "Font Color" drop-down menu, select "White" (Figure 4).

Return to the replacement window, replace with blank, click "replace all", so that those garbled files can be deleted (Figure 5).

Delete extra spaces and blank lines

Articles copied online often contain a large number of spaces and blank lines, and the deletion of such elements is also deleted in batches by searching and replacing.

For the formation of spaces mainly caused by half-width, full-width and tabs, we just use the appropriate code to replace. Such as tabs, open the Find and Replace window, click the "Advanced" button in the dialog box, and then click "Special characters", select "Tab", in the "Find What" box will appear "^ t", and then replace it with blank, so you can delete the spaces formed by tabs (Figure 6).

For the deletion of a blank line, click the "paragraph mark" in the "special character" twice. Two "^p" will appear in the "Find content" box. Replace with "^p" and click "replace all "" All blank sections in the document disappear (you can perform multiple replacements). You can see that the structure of the articles before and after the replacement is completely different (Figure 7).

Chinese and English punctuation interchange

Many articles on the Internet are mixed Chinese and English punctuation, so we need to be a unified conversion. Users with higher levels can make macro substitutions by themselves. Ordinary users can use the "Word Mandatory Toolbox" to achieve batch replacement. Open the article that needs to be typeset in Word and click on "Toolbox → English Punctuation or Chinese Punctuation" to easily complete the conversion (Figure 8).

Of course, we can also use it to achieve more typographic operations, such as the need to copy a lot of articles from the Internet to save. Then for the universal replacement, you can replace the batch with the “Word Mandatory Toolbox”. Click “Multi-Document Find and Replace”. In the pop-up window, you need to search for and replace the content. Select the directory where the document is located. Replacement of documents (Figure 9).

Write last

It can be seen that Word's main means of typesetting is to delete in batches by means of find and replace expressions. Since each specific article is different, we can use more regular expressions to delete according to the actual situation. For example, remove the space between the two non-lethal spaces, and search for "([!a-zA-Z])^32([!a-zA-Z])" to "\1\2", delete the period, The period mark after the Chinese period, English quotation mark, and Chinese quotation mark, and the search "([!... ""]) ^13" is replaced with "\1". Of course, in order to improve the efficiency of typesetting operations, you can also use the Word plug-in to complete more batch replacement operations.
