Smart building automation business opportunities and cross-domain alliances become key

Under the wave of the Internet of Things (IoT), business and residential building automation also contains considerable business opportunities. However, the value chain involved in building automation is very complicated. From the architectural design, the automation system planning, the installation and installation to the long-term system maintenance after the completion of the construction, each link is professional, and it is difficult for one industry to be fully involved. Therefore, the cross-field alliance and cooperation between various industry players and the standardization of operations in each link will be the key to whether the demand for smart buildings can take off.

Yu Shangming, deputy director of the 九格科技R&D, said that the concept of smart building or building automation has been proposed for quite a long time, but this is a long and complex vertical application of the value chain, except that the technical standards adopted by the equipment/system are inconsistent. In addition to the difficulties in integration, how relevant industry players should work together has always been a big problem.

Successful smart building or building automation projects usually involve the integration of automation and control systems while the building is still in design time, so architects, electromechanical technicians, system integrators, and equipment suppliers are still At the stage of drawing a design, it is necessary to work closely together. Since each character has its own profession, it is a big challenge to communicate effectively with each other.

On the other hand, the life cycle of a building is as short as 20 years and as long as 50 years. Electronic control systems will have the need for repair and replacement in such a long period of time. Therefore, when the smart building project is looking for a matching equipment supplier, it is necessary to make the maintenance materials, the compatibility of new and old products and other issues a major consideration, otherwise it will cause a lot of trouble. For example, many walkie-talkies in old buildings often encounter failures but no spare parts can be replaced. If similar situations occur in other key systems of intelligent buildings, the problem will be even more difficult.

In order to solve many bottlenecks encountered in the development of smart buildings, the Taiwan Intelligent Building Association has been calling on relevant industry players in the past few years, including real estate, architects, civil engineering, electromechanical, control equipment, system integration, etc., and hopes to form intelligent architectural design plans. The operating standards, as well as the framework for some of the control technology standards, let the parties follow, and also actively participate in relevant dialogues and contribute their own experience.

In fact, the singularity of industrial automation control has been cultivated for many years in the field of intelligent building and building automation. There are also many indicators of archival performance on both sides of the strait, such as the Taipei 101 generator set management system and the Taichung Asia-Pacific Cloud Office. The automation and access control system of the building, as well as the construction of a large-scale intelligent community of 4,000 households in Sichuan Province, China, are all successful cases.

Yu Shangming revealed that the future standardization of Taiwan's smart buildings in the field of automation and control is expected to be based on the oneM2M framework (Framework) initiated by the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI). oneM2M is a very flexible technical framework that can be used in factory automation, home automation, telemedicine and other fields.
