In an interview with the ç„–astcompany website, Ashun Kumar, CEO of Zunum Aero stated that with the development of large airlines, travel between big cities has become easy and fast, but at the same time, short trips have become slow and expensive. If more passengers use 5,000 regional airports nationwide, then the travel time will be greatly reduced. For example, it takes about 5 hours from Silicon Valley to Los Angeles and may be reduced to 2 and a half hours later.
Currently, Zunum Aero has been funded by two venture capital firms, namely JetBlue's JetBlue Technology Ventures and Boeing's HorizonX. Bonny Simi, president of JetBlue Technology Ventures, is very optimistic about Zunum's project. He believes that long-haul flights will not change in the short term, but flights within 300 to 600 miles may face subversion. After examining many potential companies, JetBlue thinks Zunum is the most worthwhile investment. “We believe that the hybrid aircraft is coming soon,†said Simi. “I observed many companies and felt that Zunum's team and patents were the most convincing.â€

Boeing’s interest in Zunum lies in its clean energy and electric systems. Steve Norlund, vice president of HorizonX, said that Boeing is also researching the same hybrid technology internally. Therefore, they participated in the project of Zuunum as an advisor to help Zunum succeed.
Zunum's idea is that the aircraft has a purely electric power system, but at the same time, it can also switch to a fuel engine. This design will make the airlines and passengers feel at ease because they know that if necessary, the aircraft can be switched back to the traditional power system. However, Kumar said that when the journey is short, airlines only use electric systems.
In the past three years, Zunum has cooperated with the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) to gradually obtain flight certification. Kumar hopes that by 2020, the first aircraft of the Zunum can meet the new standards set by the FAA.
