Qualcomm's first 64-bit processor Snapdragon 410 architecture analysis

Originally, the mobile industry seemed to have negotiated the same. It will not be until the second half of 2014 to collectively launch 64-bit architecture processors, but I did not expect Apple to run too fast, and accidentally produced an A7, and the entire industry While focusing on quad-core and eight-core, I started talking about 64-bit.

As a leader in the mobile processor industry, how can Qualcomm stand up? Act early! This is the first 64-bit processor officially announced by Qualcomm today: Snapdragon 410 MSM8916.

As can be seen from the number, this is a low-end product, not a high-end like Qualcomm 600 and 800. why? First, the Android system has not officially supported 64-bit (in development and testing), which needs to be promoted by OEM manufacturers. Of course, it can also be used for Windows Phone and Firefox; second, the ARM 64-bit IPs that are currently ready are basically It is Cortex-A53, and its current predecessor, Cortex-A5 / A7, is aimed at the low-end market.

Qualcomm has been authorized by the ARM instruction set for many years, and then designed its own processor architecture. This Snapdragon 410 MSM8916 is a bit lazy because it uses A53 directly.

In fact, most people's ordinary eyes are focused on high-end products. The Snapdragon 400 series is actually based directly on the Cortex-A7 architecture, and also has its own Krait architecture. Therefore, it is normal to use the A53 directly again.

Specifically, the processor is manufactured using TSMC's 28nm LP process, the quad-core frequency starts at 1.2GHz (the highest may reach 1.4GHz), and the memory supports single-channel 64-bit LPDDR2 / 3.

The core of the graphics is the new Adreno 306, the specific frequency is unknown. At present, Adreno 305 is used in the Snapdragon 400 MSM8x28 and MSM8x26. It is estimated that the difference is not large. It may be just a higher frequency.

The baseband is very advanced, from the MSM9x25 in the top Snapdragon 800 MSM8974, which supports LTE Cat.4 150Mbps, DC-HSPA + and other old standards.

The ISP has also been upgraded, adding support for a 13-megapixel main camera.

But now it is just a paper announcement. The Snapdragon 410 MSM8916 will be sampled in the first half of 2014, and related equipment will be available in the second half of the year. Even so, it is expected to become the first (or one of the first) A53 processors on the market.
