Aeroflex provides TM500 test terminals to the Telecommunications Research Institute (CATR) of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology to support TD-LTE trials
Cambridge, United Kingdom-March 5, 2010-Aeroflex announced today that they have provided a TM500 TD-LTE test terminal to the China Academy of Telecommunication Research (CATR). The TM500 tester will support the large-scale trials currently being undertaken by the Telecom Research Institute with the participation of leading domestic and international network equipment suppliers. The TM500 tester is installed in the MTNet laboratory in Beijing.

TD-LTE technology achieves efficient allocation of downlink resources and makes full use of LTE's asymmetric spectrum resources. The test network planned to be used at the Shanghai World Expo in May 2010 has stimulated strong demand for such equipment, and urgently requires powerful LTE test equipment to be available as soon as possible to support ongoing laboratory and field tests.

Before the release of commercial terminals, test terminals (emulation terminal test equipment) played a very important role in helping equipment suppliers, network operators and relevant government departments to evaluate the performance of LTE networks. Aeroflex's TM500 tester is fully compliant with TD-LTE specifications; it can emulate Cat 3 and Cat 4 terminals (UE) and already supports downlink rates up to 150 Mbps.

Wei Ran, deputy director of the Communications Standards Institute of the Telecommunications Research Institute, pointed out: "Aeroflex's active support for testing will help the Chinese government achieve the goal of building a complete TD-LTE industry chain and accelerating the commercialization of technology."

"Over the past 15 months, Aeroflex has worked closely with China Mobile and its network equipment suppliers to support the development of reliable, high-performance network equipment. We will continue to maintain the partnership we have established in China to ensure TD-LTE Success, "emphasized Jimmy Tan, vice president of Aeroflex Asia. "Looking forward, we will soon provide a complete R & D test tool to support the development of TD-LTE terminals and data cards."

TM500 makes it possible to test and debug the base station before the commercial terminal comes out. In the development process of network equipment, the development of the base station is often much earlier than the development of real mobile phones or other mobile terminal equipment. However, the base station cannot be tested without actually working mobile terminal equipment. The TM500 test terminal fills this position well. For example, TM500 can simulate an HSPA + user terminal, or an LTE user terminal with 300Mbit / s performance, and can also simulate multiple user terminals to support LTE development and load stress testing.

Every major basic network equipment supplier and major microcell base station (miniaturized wireless base station) manufacturer has adopted TM500 throughout its product development cycle. TM500 has become the industry standard equipment for 3GPP inspection, certification and optimization. From HSDPA to HSUPA and HSPA + to LTE, TM500 has been applying leading-edge technology to provide the industry with a strong and reliable test capability.
