How to choose the size of the memory card when the S7-1200 memory card is used as a transmission card? The customer checked the size of the project folder and found that it is very large, there are 4-5MB, then is it necessary to choose according to this size when selecting the memory card?
The answer is no, because this folder contains not only the project file itself, but also some auxiliary files, which do not need to be transferred to the memory card, so the choice is based on the error.
So how do you choose? First, you need to understand the following background:
The internal storage of the S7-1200 is divided into three types: working storage area, loading storage area, and retentive storage area.
The load storage area is a non-volatile storage area. Used to store user project files (user programs, data and configuration). When the memory card is not inserted, the user downloads the project using the TIA Portal software and downloads it into the load storage area.
Note: Memory cards are not required for the S7-1200. Even if you use a large-capacity memory card, you cannot expand the load storage area.
Therefore, the size of the storage area occupied by the user's project does not exceed the maximum limit of the S7-1200 load storage area.
It can be seen that the program of the S7-1200 does not exceed 4MB, so regardless of the CPU, it is sufficient to select a 4MB memory card as the transmission card.
So how do you view the size of a storage area for a user project?
If you want to know the storage space occupied by the current program, you can view it through the resource window of the TIA Portal software. In the structure tree on the left side of the software, right-click on the "Program Block" and select "Call Structure" as shown below:
Then select the "Resources" tab, pop up the resource window, as shown below:
It can be seen that the existing program occupies 0.67% and 7002 bytes of the load storage area.
