Infineon's new generation of high voltage MOSFETs set new standards for energy efficiency

Infineon 's latest generation of high-voltage CoolMOSTM MOSFETs has yet another innovation, setting new standards in energy efficiency. At the PCIM Europe 2011 (May 17th to 19th) in Nuremberg, Germany, Infineon exhibited the new 650V CoolMOSTM CFD2, the world's first drain-source breakdown voltage of 650V and integrated A high voltage transistor with a fast body diode. This new CFD2 device continues the benefits of 600V CFD products, not only to improve energy efficiency, but also to have softer switching functions, thereby reducing electromagnetic interference (EMI) and enhancing the competitive advantage of the product.

The 650V CoolMOSTM CFD2 combines the advantages of a fast-switching super-junction MOSFET , including better light load efficiency, lower gate charge, ease of application, and superior reliability. In addition, the product features a lower unit area on-resistance and lower capacitive switching losses, allowing easy control of switching behavior and providing the most rugged body diodes on the market today. The new CoolMOSTM CFD2 product also reduces system cost compared to the previous generation 600V CFD. Overall, it is the best choice for resonant switching topologies.

Infineon expects that the largest potential markets for the 650V CoolMOSTM CFD2 include solar inverters, servers, lighting and switching power supplies (SMPS) for communication systems.

According to Jan-Willem Reynaerts, Infineon Technologies' high-voltage MOS product line manager, "With our revolutionary CoolMOSTM technology, Infineon has become a market leader in energy efficiency and power density. Samples of the IPW65R080CFD (650V, on-resistance 80mA, TO247 package) are available now. When the order quantity is 10,000, the unit price is 6.00 USD.
